 Exploring Music in Context Stimulus Piece Analysis (AOI3).

Medium: The entire piece is played solely on the piano, making it easy for the listener to focus on the way that emotional aspects of the piece
Melody: Mainly conduct, there are a few instances when it is disjunct. The melody is smooth and the main focus of the piece. 
Harmony: Amaj7, very simplistic and minimalist to showcase the melody. Switches between Amaj7, Bm7 and Esus chords before ending on a Dm. 
Texture: Monophonic during the beginning, then homophonic until the end, played with both a repeated and arpeggiated chord accompaniment. 
Meter: triple meter, slow tempo although it does change. simple rhythm, composed mostly of eighth notes, quarter notes, and dotted quarter notes.
Form: piece starts off simple before adding layers and going up octaves to add to the tension, 
Style: minimalistic, but also has a jazz element to it with the chord progression. 
Context: The male lead in Lalaland has an affinity for jazz, his passion and being seemingly existing for music. This song is used in the scene where the main two characters meet each other, the female lead becoming entranced while the male lead is playing this piano theme. 'Mia and Sebastian's theme' is also used at the end of the movie as a final goodbye between the two of the characters, a mutual agreement that they wouldn't give up the time that they had together, but also coming to the resolution that they needed to let each other go for their own dreams.
Expression: The dynamics of the song again serve to establish the melody as the main focus, the soft harmony going almost unnoticed in the background yet sharpening as the song builds tension, before calming at the end.
